930 in the Alps
After grenading the engine in my '76 Carrera, we were reduced to taking the 930 for our tour
![]() I think these can interest some: While waiting at the toll for the Grossglockner, I spotted somthing weird in the queue: ![]() I asked the driver about it, he said "testing..." He was very polite but a bit cold. I saw him again parked near some barracks close to the top. There were also some Audis being tested (this pass is very close to Zell am See): ![]() A little farther, we had to stop to honor the SCWDP guys. It was a very nice red, Garnet red I think: ![]() This is at the top of Passo Gavia, 2625m (about 8500ft.): ![]() I think there are worse places to be: ![]() GeorgeK |

Fantastic, George! If it weren't such a long drive there, I'd come over and play.

So how did 930 work @ high altitude? Hotter? What about boost?
N/A cars loose much ooomph at high altitudes...i think you choose right car for the job :-)

Goran,
You're right about boost, but if it got off boost, then I was a sitting duck with the 7.5:1 CR. No overheating whatsoever. The needle got at its highest a tad over the center while in a traffic jam. Otherwise always in the lower half between the 2 "center" marks. ![]() GeorgeK |

Ah - those photos bring back great memories. I've driven that road a few times. It is sooo beautiful there. I got to the Gmuend Museum last time I was there.

What's the cheapest way to ship a car to Europe? I keep promising the wife a honeymoon there....
Beautiful pictures, GeorgeK. Glad to see the vacation is back on track.

That's really a shame George. Having to take the 930 instead of the Carrera hardly makes a trip thru the Alps worthwhile!
![]() In reality, it's great to see a 911 being the used the way it was intended! -- Curt |

George - those pictures are great, especially the 2nd one! That road must be great to drive on.
Must be nice to have a 930 Turbo to fall back on - in my case it is a '95 Ford Winstar Mini-van ![]()
