I would love to see how a guards red Carrera would look with the flat black split hood paint job (keep the black rubber trim but change all the other pieces except the ducktail to red?).

Hey tincob,
Sorry I didn't see your post sooner! I haven't been on pelican so much lately. Anyway, I looked long and hard for a guards red 911, and kind of liked the stance on this one, so I added a duck and some stripes. I kind of botched the duck, but here it is anyway... :)(P.S.-shameless ducktail WTB plug: I am in the market for a ducktail, so if you ever sell yours (or anybody else), please shoot me a PM!)

I just took a quick picture of my black hood.

I still need to sand the hood down and paint it racing stripe black, and put the badge back on, but it lends an idea.

The bumpers will be black, and maybe the engine lid, I haven't decided yet.

I have a passenger side flag mirror to install and a non-wavy replacement smile lip for above the front bumper.

EDIT: 05/19/14

Yesterday put black primer on the hood and sprayed Plasti-dip on the wheels.

Today painted the hood a low luster black today, still have to buff it out and put the hood badge on, then take some pictures of it. The above photo is just the black primer.

That's what a couple of us have contemplated.

Not a two toned hood but I couldn't find the thread on plasti dip. You got to see what they did to this brand new 911.

Jeff, you know you want an aubergine hood. It's definitely the hot setup. ;) :D

theclaw 06-24-2014 05:32 AM

Jim, You never know!

kach22i 06-28-2014 05:36 AM

A while back someone started a thread asking if 911's have ever had two tone paint jobs similar to VW Beetles. I could not find that thread, so I'm posting this find here, which sort of looks like a reto production.

Mark Morrissey has a thing for endurance racers and rally cars from the late '60s and early '70s. Which might explain why his Porsche 911 looks a few years older than it actual 1978 vintage.
