SC backdate - bodywork questions
Sorry, guys, that I take liberty in opening yet an other "SC-backdate-thread", but I believe to have gone through all of I could read here at Pelican but stil cannot make up what I believe to miss in details.
I dig the longhood-look, but cannot aford a genuine one. And my SC is well sortet and the SC-model has lots of advantages (e.g. brakebooster). So I'm looking for a pictured bodywork tutorial (cut, set, weld, fix). Please, can somebody explain to me with pictures, as to what has to be cut/modified, meaning: at what place exactly cuts have to be made? I'd like to start with the rear. I found this picture, looking like step one. But what comes afterwards? And how do you fix e.g. a fiberglass pre-74 bumper? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1393588408.jpg And then there is the front. I know I'll need F-model fenders. But how do you relocate the traverse for the longhood? Many thanks for your asistance! |
Just spot weld and is little weld each side .Rear crossmember is the same 65-89 .parts number 901 507 080 01.Easy job.

Here are a couple thorough threads on backdating.
This one was performed with reversibility in mind. Light weight image change - Body Overhaul Projects - Impact Bumpers This one is very thorough, performed by a gentleman who restores longhoods regularly. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/646800-my-backdated-hot-rod-project-underway.html This one is being performed by a 911 artisan. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/716480-cheap-long-hood-another-back-date-project.html |
The rear bumper you already seem to have figured out. Drill the spot welds out and remove the piece that you have shown in your red line.
The front is easier if you use a fibreglass hybrid front hood. Most of the fiberglass guys sell one - they have the outer shell of a long hood and the inner structure of a short hood which means you can achieve the look without having to change the latch plate or the front of the chassis. The front bumper is simply a matter of adapting brackets to suit after you have acquired new finders. |
