What to pay for core 915

I need a 915 box and will have it gone through by my guy. My mechanic has one with bad 2 gear synchro but doesn't know what to charge me for it. He said he thinks they go for around 750 as a core what do u think? It's a Carrera box mid 80s

I paid $500 a few years ago when SC was $10K. Now that the SC is double that, the 915 core is going to cost more. I would say $750 is fair,

$750 is a decent core price. Just make sure it matches the stub axles in the car, assuming that they are present. If not you will need to find a pair.

I think of my 4000+ posts a review would suggest that I am generally helpful, when that is what a member wants. PML was looking for trouble all week.

be sure the pinion roller bearing race isn't loose in the diff case, and that it has a good diff, and no scored gear sets. then it's worth buying.

how can you tell if it is all in one piece not torn down?

Come to think of it, the $500 jobbie I bought 5 years ago did have a spun bearing race. Even though it was all working, once I tore into it, it got a spun race.

Since he is buying it for his mechanic to rebuild it he can put a condition contingency on the deal. It will be torn down.
