2003 C4 Cab is not closing properly... cable issue?!

Hey all!

So, got this '03 about a year ago. Top always closed perfectly fine. But about 5-6 months ago, I noticed that it would sometimes get caught while closing. I would hear a "POP" and then see that the cable was closing OUTSIDE of the guide...

I know this is clear as mud, so I've posted a video and 4 pics of the issue on my website.

Any advice would be appreciated, as I have to now reach up while the top is closing and PULL that part of the top inward to keep it from catching. I can only assume its not a fun job if that cable finally breaks...!

My website (I am a TV/Film Actor, no spam or porn! ) is here:

911

Thanks in advance!!

Hi- I cannot help you with advice, but I do have a copy of "P60-Body and Top Diagnosis and Repair." It should cover your car. If you want to borrow it- you are welcome! Let me know.

Check and see if the guide piece is loose. It looks like it is too far inward at the rear edge. It can be shimmed with washers. It is held on with a couple of bolts from the inside, they often come loose and sometimes fall out, possibly the bolt was replaced without enough washers between the frame and guide/seal piece.

I might also have a copy of the top manual,it's in PDF format so it can be e-mailed if you like.

Open the top half way. Towards the top of where the cable housing is there should be a strap with elastic on it. It's on the bottom side, this strap pulls the top inward so it doesn't hang out like u discribed . Sometimes the elastic breaks or stretches out and no longer puts tension on the top. If so hand sew a new piece of elastic to the strap and done.
