Rear caliper rebuild kit

Hello everyone,

I have been rebuilding the brakes on my 70T and have ordered rebuild kits for the rear calipers twice and the kits I receive don't fit my calipers. The piston seals slip right over the pistons with 1 or 2 mm clearance and the dust seals do not come close to sealing around the top of the piston. The pistons measure 38mm which is what the kits are suppose to fit. Has anyone had a similar problem or know a solution? The kits are FTE as were the front kits which fit fine.

Thanks

I am sure Eric at PMB Performance could set you up with the right parts if you want to DIY them.

I agree with Flieger, the best person in the business of these brakes, is Eric Shea at: PMB Performance

It may be too late, or you're not at the point to spend more money on the rebuild, but when I refreshed/updated my SC brakes, I sent my rears to Eric at PMB and he restored my calipers for a great price. The calipers were returned to me looking brand spanking new, with new seals and proper fresh coating.

I highly recommend him if you're having any trouble with a brake rebuild.

Here is a third vote for Eric at PMB. He restored the rear brakes on my 71T. I broke them down and sent them to him to be coated and bought all the parts to put them back together from him. Like Craig says, maybe you're too far down the road, but give PMB a call and they may be able to help you figure out the problem. There are 2 Eric's at PMB, but they are both very knowledgeable.

Thanks everyone. I have it in my budget to send my front calipers to PBM in the future they are in need of restoration. I had not thought of talking to them about parts I will give Eric a call, I bet they can set me up with the correct kits.

Did you buy your kits from our host ? Maybe they can set you straight. If its a kit, you certainly aren't the first to have this problem or need something special.

Yes I got the kits from our host. The second time I ordered I thought I was going to get the ATI kits but I received FTE again. They say the kit should work for my calipers if they are the stock units. They look like the stock ones but I cannot say for sure I know nothing about the first 20 years of the cars life.

I just got the ATE rebuild kits I ordered from PMB and they fit perfect. They said that the calipers with 38mm pistons and the wobble compensator use a different kit then the later 38mm without it (75 on?). Of course PMB was right on, they know their stuff.

I got FTE RKS3801 kits from our host which are the only option listed for 69-77. Maybe the FTE k691S are the correct kits but I was told the kits I received were correct for the 70.
