Installation of Das Sport bolt-in roll bar in 87-89 911 Cabriolet
Hi Pelicans,
I am preparing to install a Das Sport bolt-in roll bar in my 1989 911 Cabriolet. I am doing the install so I can take the PCA HPDC at Summit Point. New rules require roll bars in Cabs even for HPDC. I bought the bar used from another Pelican. I don't have original instructions with pictures for the install, just the text off the Das Sport website. Would someone please send me pictures of the four points at which you have installed the bar in your car? I would like to visualize that. I am trying to get an idea of the following: 1. Do I need to pull the carpet off the backs of my rear 'flip up' seat backs and remove the backs from the car completely, or can I just unbolt the seat backs and then tuck them away behind the roll bar somehow with the carpet still attached? I am not very keen on removing the carpet from the seat backs, but maybe it is not a big deal. 2. Do I have to make any cuts in the carpet near the front lower mounting points. It does not look like I have to. Do I simply remove the bolt from the lower seat belt anchor points and then run the new bolt through the seat belt anchor, mounting plate hole, and back into the rocker? 3. What are the four aluminum-colored plates for? Just spacers? Would also like a picture to see how those are used. Thanks and best, Jonathan |

The mounting holes are where your seat belts mount, the front belt is anchored to the inner rocker sills just behind the front seat.
The rear mounts to the outside belt mount, see pix below of my 83 cab. ![]() ![]()

In a 89 you have to remove the seat backs. It's not hard, the carpet is only tucked under the back cover. The back bolts into where the seat was bolted in. The aluminum pieces are spacers only. Not necessary if you dont want them. May help a little during the install. Don't store your seats behind the bar. They may fly out and hit you while driving. It's a 45 minute job. Allow an hour + your first time and youll most likely need a decent helper to get the bar to fit. It will fit but may need some persuation.

Thanks to both of you for the useful information.
Any advice on removing seat bolts/release mechanisms? Will I face any major hassles there? Cheers, Jonathan |

Back seats - No, very easy.
Front seat belt bolt - May be on pretty tight. Try not to let the belt retract into the retainer. I've heard that may cause an issue but not sure for certain.

What is that photo?? I think installing 7 HOOTERS GIRLS in the back seat is a lot more fun and rewarding that an old roll bar!!
Is there a step by step photo story on installing the 7?
