Looking for a new shifter, HATE my CAE Shifter

			Hi

I have a 911SC with the 915 transmission. I installed a CAE shifter and I've had nothing but problems with it. It's too quick and precise for the 915 and I've actually lost gears a couple of times and even had the gearbox jam. Never happened with my original shifter. So I'm looking for something new. I do want a tall shifter but what do people recommend? I've looked at the rennline exactshift but I'm afraid it will be too much like the CAE. Any suggestions? Thanks

You’re going to get some opinions now so be prepared. I’ve had my Wevo on my SC for about14 years and really like. It’s probably the best mod I’ve done to the car after the SSIs. As you have found, you cannot rush a 915 and I think the Wevo is a good fit for the gearbox. It’s worth of course ensuring that all of the easy things, such as bushes and adjustment, are in good order.

Rennshift shifter is what I have it and I love it. Best change I’ve made to my car.

Original Porsche 915 shifter with all new bushings, couplers, the karsten centering spring and an extender (someone on Pelican makes them but I can’t recall who). All that will cost you a fraction of the price of a new shifter and deliver the same results. Just food for thought. Edit; here’s the shift extension; https://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?122347-FS-68-88-911-Shift-Lever-Extension&p=876456#post876456

Curious - was the CAE encouraging faster shifts to cause the tranny damage? Aside from imprecise shifting, which doesn't sound like the situation here, I'm wondering what caused the damage.

I'm with Julian, I have Jamies bushing, karsten spring on my 77 and it shifts great. The rennshifter in my 83 only feels better due to the longer handle it has. I'm going to look into the extender for the stock shifter.

I liked the Seine Shifter Modification! The BEST $150 I have spent on my 911 in my 83 ROW car.

These have to be made by you now since the owner has passed away. Old Pelican Add - Porsche and Mercedes-Benz Seine Systems Gate Shift Kit for 915 Trans The karsten spring is discussed in Seine Systems gate shifter spring. |
