Wheel/Tire size quesions

Hello all,

I just picked up another 911 (makes three!). It is a 1980sc targa with a steel wide body and it currently has beautiful original condition gotti wheels with 225/50/15's and 345/35/15 (not a typo).

However, I do not love the wheels nor the idea of replacing the rear tires so am looking to move to a new set up (fuchs). Naturally I have a lot of space to fill and having more background with newer vehicles, having a good stance with full fenders is important to me (not 'hella flush' or anything like that, just a good fit).

This was not an expensive car so anything OEM is out which leaves me with replica wheels like euromeister. Are there any other wheels I should be considering?

Also, I have ZERO idea what tire sizes to run. The 16x9's recommend a 245/45/16 which is basically non-existent so can I run a wider tire with narrower side wall or just a wider tire?

Further, for the fronts can I run an 8" wheel and if so what tire size? The Gotti's up front do not come close to filling the fender well.

Thank you for all the helpful advice that will undoubtedly be contributed!

up front stickt to 7x16 205/55 and 7mm spacer

rear: i'd say 9x16 or even 10x16 with 30-60mm spacers at your own gusto.

What about the Rota Fox 7.5 and 9x17s? You could run 235s/275s with some spacers and fill out the wheel wells pretty well.

They are but I want 16's to allow for a correct look with the sidewall. 17's look out of proportion in my opinion. It is probably just me that will notice but it would bug me.

Of course, the reason I suggested the 17s is that the selection of 16" tires (and any sort of Fuchs-type wheel) simply doesn't work well. I suspect you know that already - hence your post.

Good luck.

Could I run a 255/50/16 our back on a 9" wheel and have it look correct (subjective term, I know)?

IMO, no. The sidewall height is going to be 127.5mm (5"). The better looking 245/45-16 has a sidewall height of 110.25mm (4.34"). Plus, the overall diameter of the 255 is ~26" which is a good inch larger than typical.

I've run 275/40-17s a lot. They are 25.6" diameter and I think they look "big", but they fill out the wheelwells nicely on SC flares. You looking to fill much bigger "shoes"...

judging from the PM's ~ Guess I should have said more -

They are Zuffenhaus Wheels - 9 x 17 and 11 x 17

They are -8 ET on the rears and 17 ET on the front - 255/40/17 and 315/35/17

Anything under a 17 and you will have to go with a Michelin TB or cut up some hoosiers with treads - or just run R6 Hoosiers on the street like outlaw Magnus Walker...

I have a set of Fikse wheels for the track - same offsets and same tire sizes - although the next set of NT01's I'll probably size up the fronts to 275's. I like the old school looks with the gold - I understand not for everybody...
