Izzy finds a gem
First of all, I want to say thanks to everyone on the board who offered their help and advice during my 4 month search, particularly Bill Conway who steered me to Jones Autowerks in San Antonio who did the PPI.
This is a 1987 Targa with 17K that I found on Rennlist. The former owner lives near San Antonio, and as I mentioned, the PPI was done by Jones Autowerks who I can't say enough good things about. Kathy and Bob did a really thorough job on the PPI--finding previously hidden cosmetic flaws that literally saved me $4k. Thanks Kathy and Bob! As you can see, the car is very clean. Its all stock with options like power driver seat and rear wiper. Unfortunately it was ordered with 15's so the tire selection is limited. Battery is new. Tires are new. Came with a cover and a bra. The headliner is droopy, but other that that the car needs nothing. I paid $25K for this car. This is my first Porsche and I really don't have the time or the inclination to do any heavy wrenching on the car. I wanted a car that needed almost nothing with low miles. I would much rather pay the dollars up front for a car like this than to messing with it or worrying about it everytime I drive. I also wanted a silver Targa, so this is really a dream come true. I love driving this car. The pictures I've posted were taken Sunday on a breakfast run with my wife up to Bodega Bay, CA (where Hitchcock's "the Birds" was filmed) where I stopped the car long enough to take the shots. We drove around the Northern California coast all day sporting huge P-Car grins. After I decided to go ahead and purchase the car, I had the owner drop the car and the title/paperwork off at Jones Autowerks (where the PPI was done) and they handed him a check that I had Fed Ex'd to them the day before. They inspected the car one last time, had the owner sign off the title and a bill of sale. This turned out to be an excellent way to take care of a large and long-distance amount of money. Jones not only did this for no charge, but stored the car in their garage for four days until the truck arrived. Really great folks. I had the car shipped from Texas in a covered truck. It took about 4 days from San Antonio, and believe it or not, arrived on my 45th birthday! Armed with the knowledge and advice from the Pelican board, I was able to pull off a long distance purchase of a beautiful car. Thanks again, gentlemen.

Congrats! Beautiful looking car, and it sounds like a good way to do the long distance thing.
It also provides an interesting data point...'87 targa, 17K miles, $25K price. Sounds like you got a great deal. |

Congrats on your purchase! It's nice to see that there ARE PEOPLE LIKE ME that are willing to put forth the extra energy and extra money to buy a car that basically needs nothing
. I'm sure you will enjoy trouble-free operation for the next several years while you concentrate on "learning" to drive a 911. $25k sounds like a great buy on a low mileage G50 Carrera, contrary to what most would say the value is. Good luck with it!!!

Congrats on the new car. It looks mighty nice. Also good to hear positive feelings regarding Jones Autowerks. I have a stack of receipts for work they did on my car in the past (including the engine rebuild) but had never really heard much about the shop. Sounds like they're good people.
Enjoy the car, Jeff |

Izzy,
Nice car, man! I am glad that we were able to help you find and secure this gem. Now you have to stay on the board and learn all about 3.2 engines, G50 trannys, headliner replacement; and of course listen to the targa haters whine. I too love the silver cars, my coupe is silver & the 69 targa I sold last year after more than 15 years of ownership was a silver lady also.. Happy trails,
