Question about lightweight starter wiring - '87 911 turbo
Hey there Pelicans,
I'm planning on replacing the stock starter on my '87 911 turbo with a lightweight starter and have run into a wiring issue. The stock starter has the big power cable terminal and 2 smaller terminals with yellow wires attached - one thicker solid yellow wire and one thinner yellow wire with blue dots. The lightweight starter only has one terminal in addition to the big power cable terminal. I'm wondering how I can wire up this lightweight starter to work properly. I'm thinking one of the 2 yellow wires is CIS related - possibly to send the cranking signal to the cold start valve. I actually don't use the cold start valve in my car so if this is the situation I guess I could simply tape off that unused wire and not attach it to the lightweight starter. Does anyone know if my above thoughts are correct - that one of those yellow wires is the signal to the cold start valve? Below are pictures of the stock starter and the lightweight starter. Thank you for any help you can provide! ![]() ![]() |
