Scheiße! Steering rack broke again!

I'n now on my second broken 'rebuilt' steering rack! Grr. They seem to last one track day, and then go to hell. Has anyone else used one?

Wow. Is it the same unit that was rebuilt, or was a new one swapped in?

I have the same question as for the one that broke the balljoint:
"how long have you had these big wide sticky tires?"

What kind of offset are your running on your front wheels? Did you change it in order to fit the wide wheels and tires?

Are you using the spacers that come with the turbo tie rods?

The 911 rack changed (I think around '72), so if you get a used one (per Jack's post) make sure it is the later design. FYI all 914 racks are the same as the later 911 rack - so you could use one of those.

bummer, I added the bump steer kit on my car and it really smoothed out the steering, I got the one from Smart Racing, ERP I think is the make, the kind that extends the ball joint so the rack remains mounted on the crossmember.

Might help...

Nothing except what should be going in the Import Grrrl thread

But seriously, I don't think I'l doing anything weird, or out of the envelope. I have 930 hubs with no wheel spacers.

The dead rack is a rebuilt unit obtained from this very boutique not 2 months ago. (maybe 'es resting; tired out after a long squawk. Beautiful plumage!)

My turbo tie rod kit didn't come with spacers. I've heard of people needing them to keep the threads from bottoming out and preventing the tie rods from being tightened completely.

As far as big sticky tires, there are other folks running the same or similar setup, and many of them with tires more sticky than the A032R's.
