Finally a 911 sc owner
Just bought my first sc it's a 81 targa original paint showing its age everything seems to work fine so far it's a bit cold here in canada and the heat in these cars I'm finding is not that great lol I've been driving around town and it's amazing my dream car is exactly what I dreamed it would do
I'm a DIY and have a hoist in the garage so I'll be tackling a few small projects as I've learned so much from just reading this forum Here's some pics ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Congrats, and great looking 911. The heat can be quite warm as long as all components work properly. Thankfully you are nearing the end of winter and have all summer to get it working better prior to the cold.

Congratulations from a 1979 SC Targa owner. Great looking car and great color! From the pictures it looks like a car well enjoyed and used but not abused. You will have great times with your new project.

Also, that little hamster cage fan in the back doesn't do much in my car either. I was all excited when I got mine working, but could barely notice it. I can scald my feet though when the engine is 3000 and up on the interstate! Nothing like air cooled heat! I love opening the sunroof on mine and freezing while cranking up the heat and burning my feet simultaneously is the best! ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 03-20-2014 at 03:45 PM.. |

Lol I have read the owners manual and I'm still confused
Too lever is for fan and fresh air ducks Middle lever is regulation if fresh air to feet or windshield etc Bottom lever regulates the flow if hot air from the heat exchangers I'll have to recheck my heating system as if I turn on the top lever it blows fresh cold air so I have to keep it off |

There was a great thread / article somewhere that really explained the heating/cooling on an SC. I wish I could remember where it was, but basically (and again I could totally be wrong)- I havent taken the front apart to see how it works, but it explained the climate control as three different systems, cold air coming in from the front, the AC system, and heat coming from the back. I don't think it works like a modern car where you turn on the heat, choose your fan setting, and then direct the heat where you want.
Also, some of the aftermarket heat exchangers don't work so well. The oem heat exchangers do well though. One of my favorite things in a pcar is after you have driven on the interstate, and the heater tubes in the rockers are all warmed up, and you can smell the german carpet all nice an hot (burning?!?) ![]() |

I'm very excited to work and drive one of these I already bought a while ago the 101 projects for 911 so I've been reading that also helps the po lowered the car a bit and it handles good and driving around town people can't stop starting at it and waving as I barely see these old p cars driving around very rare

Hey man, congrats on the purchase! I remember your threads during the hunt. Well done!
I'm in Toronto and I'm scheduled at Auto Select in Newmarket to have new tires put on March 31st. After that I'm totally down for a cruise. If you're in brampton, maybe we can see if any dudes want to do the forks of the credit? |

Finally a 911 sc owner
For heat, try levers between the seats all the way up, the 2 levers on the top of the dash controls together in the middle.
The center slider on dash all the way to the left and the bottom slider on dash all the way to the right for max defrost. Move the bottom one to the middle to get your feet warm. You will be moving the between the seat Levers down after 5 minutes. They control the heat level. You can then mix outside air with the middle dash lever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As for the heat, it is controlled directionally by the bottom lever and volume controlled by the two red handled levers between the seats. As you lift the levers the heat exchanger control valves are opened until in the upmost position the blower turns on. If you are not getting plenty of hot air it is usually a couple of problems. The heat exchanger control box is damaged or cables not adjusted properly. Or the duct work is torn/disconnected at some place.
