M241 (factory short shift) Install
Well, that was easy. Less than two hours to install, didn't bother to look up instructions. It was that straightforward. That includes taking photos and cleaning up the beer I spilled. Just watch out for those springs when you take the top nuts off.
![]() The kit came with a lot more parts than necessary - the shift rod and metal box are all that is needed. Note the shift lever pieces are new welded together, I previously epoxied the old 2-piece one together since it was adding a lot of slop. ![]() Here's the magic - that raised hinge pin is what actually shortens the fore-aft throw. The other axis (left to right) is unchanged, so the 1st-3rd-5th planes aren't tightened up at all. Also my reverse lockout spring was broken, which means it wasn't functional. Maybe it was nice to get some of those extraneous parts, as I got a new one with the kit. Feels great, just like stock but a bit shorter / firmer fore and aft. I'm pleased, and the price was right. blog post about it.
