Car introduction - 1973 T/E/S
This car has been very interesting. First thing in the 80's, I found a engine core down the street in Westmont, IL. 901/05. Asked Brookfield Engine Builders to build that to 2.8L. Never pay in full up front! Competition Engineering did the case work and supplied P&C's. Got a used 2.4 / 2.7 crankshaft from a shop at the Palwaukee Airport.
![]() Then got the car in 1990 for a deal. T targa chassis, 911/52 E engine, S suspension and spoiler. Fuchs. Happy new owner! My GF drove it for the first time 3 days later. Suddenly the car was much slower. What have you done to my car? Dropped a tensioner. Running on 3 cylinders. No biggie to fix. Had read about these cars for years. ![]() So it was a Chicago car. Drive through a puddle and the floorboard will squirt you in the mouth every time. Took a couple years to replace the rusted panels. Thanks to Dave at Bosch in Lisle for help tuning. First thing he did for me is score the German MFI manual and insist we don't skip any steps. He had a home-made MFI injector tester with a glass jar and a hand pump. Got a CO meter. ![]() Then Andial ported the heads on the 2.4L to 39mm. Pacific Injection ported the throttles. Mod S cams. Raceware bolts. 7800 RPM. Pulled hard to redline. No interior. No targa glass. What a screamer without the air cleaner! The Brookfield police reported they found a stolen and stripped car when they saw it parked in the street with no interior or glass. When will Brookfield Engine Builders ever get the 2.8L done? So then, it's a 2.4L DE car. R-compound tires. At Blackhawk raceway, the corner workers called in that the inside front tire was 18" off the ground! Back when Kevin Buckler worked the phones he explained you fix that wheel lifting with the biggest t-bars you can get or else coil-overs. He also sold me a used puck disk out of his car. I like that upgraded disk better than the stage IV pressure plate because the PP puts extra tension on the clutch cable. ![]() After 12 years of waiting, the aluminum case, 2.8L 8000 rpm engine was finally finished. Stock shot-peened and polished rods, Raceware bolts. J&E pistons. EFI with MFI stacks, roll cage, and 9" and 11" Forgelines w/ Hoosiers with a plastic body and windows. Monoball trailing arm and strut mounts. Still drives to and from the track. Runs PCA DE at Blackhawk Farms, Gingerman, Road America, and Midwest Council Autocross at BFR. ![]() Later then, some experimentation with turbocharging. 7.0/1 CR. Twin-Plug on Electromotive Ignition. Still can run the mag-case 915 because the car is light and it's all set up for high-RPM (low torque). On my lever-scales, 1850 lbs dry. No boost in first or second, but the car pulls hard after that. I'm measuring 1G acceleration at 90mph on Hoosiers. Hard to believe. I just put in another wheel speed sensor and a couple accelerometers to confirm. ![]() More recently, 996tt brakes, Megasquirt, Hargett Shifter. Interested in fuel cell and raised spindles and suspension pick-ups. ![]()

What a great build. Love the turbo motor and unique setup. The flipped turbos combined with the dual end air filter is very creative.
