Removing Coat Hooks

Need help removing the color co-ordinated plastic coat hooks from my 1986 donor wreck without splitting. I've tried gentle push upward and also tried to turn them counter clockwise to unscrew, with no luck. Also gently used a block and mallet in upward motion, still no luck. What am I doing wrong?

i think you kinda need to unclip them by pulling down and unclip the bottom then theyll slide up

On my '84, I could pull the plastic cover off and then just unscrew the bracket.

If anyone cares, the two hooks w/ brackets and screws weighed 40 g (1.411 ounces)!

Hey Bob,

I thought you would have carried it out a few more decimal points. 1.411 ounces--I love it!

I wasn't exactly looking for weight saving guys but I am soooo pleased that Bob took the time to share.
BTW, 930dude got it sort-of right. Push the bottom out by prying with a thin screw driver and then push up. The plastic slides off to expose a metal bracket and screw underneath. Now that I know the great weight savings, it will be a "delete" for my project build.
Cheers,
Johan

You're welcome!

Lighter is faster, right?:D

Seriously, I have taken over 350# out of my car. Even if you never track or auto-cross it, the difference in handling is very noticeable - as is acceleration, to a lesser degree.
