There's nothing like the sound of a flat 6. From that perspective, the four will be a step down.

As with many things, it's a matter of opinion. For example, I know that today's F1 cars are super high tech and people love the sound. But for me, the golden era of race car sound was the 60's to early 70's - specifically the V8's and V12's.

Just remember how much of the Porsche crowd responded when the 900 series was introduced. 'A proper Porsche has 4 cylinders, not 6!'

I think NA 6cyl will be relatively rare in the near future. Turbo 4cy are starting to replace them everywhere.
I like turbo motors and I dont think it is a bad thing. Though, I do think their MPG advantages over comparably powerful v6s are not realized in real world driving. I Absolutly loved the turbo flat4 in my old STI.

Sound has nothing to do with how an engine works . The Porsche cars of the future will be faster and lighter. And they will use computers to dial in the sound they want. This is the future folks. All because of new Government standards. Porsche will figure it out. They always do.

Still wish they'd bring back the 912…not that I could afford one if they did.

As long as they don't come for our air cooled 6's we're ok.

They say "up to 395hp", but I bet there will be a new "base" Boxster / Cayman with a less hp H4…you may get your wish!

A Boxster is a cabriolet. A Cayman is a coupe. A 914 is a Targa!!! Dig around with GIS a bit. There was a concept car a few years back. Just drawings, but true to the 914 lines. Cool looking little car.

If they make a Cayman Turbo with almost 400hp, I don't care what it sounds like, it'll be a blast.

I agree. 385HP in that chassis (with some chassis weight reduction as well) spells fun.
