Recovered steering wheel, courtsey of Dallas Custom Steering Wheel.

Don Le is a great guy, and does very good work. My extended-hub three-spoke wheel had seen some better days - it was OK, but the stitching was a bit frayed, and the leather was moving from "nice patina" to "a bit sad looking in places". So, I sent it off to Don, who turned it around in about a week and shipped me back a fresh-black-leather-shod "fatty" wheel. Very nice feel, and looks great - top-notch work.

There had been a small glitch at the beginning of the order process that Don took care of without any further hassles - superb customer service. I would not hesitate to have him work on any other steering wheel.

Not that I've posted to PP. For months, I have had trouble actually posting pics here. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'll try again a few more times before throwing in the towel.

OK, folks wanted to see Don Le's good work - here it is!

The wheel feels great in-hand, and the leather is nice and grippy. The padding is firm, and makes the wheel very comfortable. I am quite pleased with the outcome.

Thanks to Don and Dallas Custom Steering Wheel.

That looks fantastic. What a great alternative to the Proto...

That does look good. If only Don could do something for the cheap-feeling hard-plastic horn "pad". That's my complaint with the stock wheel...

That looks just like mine! Don did my extended hub steering wheel and made it just a bit thicker - looks and feels great.

I think the best part is how it feels. The thick rim is really nice.

The steering wheel for my Six, a stock leather wheel, is going to Don to be recovered and double wrapped. I can't wait to see it. They are the best in the business.

I wonder if it could be covered with REALLY thin glove leather?

I'd worry about it shrinking and pulling away from the horn pad after a few years (or more).

Very nice looking work.

What does something like this cost?? Or, if you feel more comfortable referring me to his site, that is cool.

I have another car that is in need of some wheel work.

Thanks,

chris

Well, it's not cheap. $350+

BUT - if I to rate the bang for the buck, it's right up there with the Steve Wong chip. Think of it this way: there are only a few points of contact between you and your car. And only two of them are naked under normal circumstances.

Yes, I do mean your hands, LOL. So how your steering wheel feels is important, IMO. Even in this car, where there is so much else going on to treat the senses.

Nicely said! It is beautiful! BTW how much thicker is yours from stock? I see on their site they offer 1/8th & 1/16th, but is it possible for even thicker I wonder?

Yeah, same here. Plus, while it would look a whole lot nicer, it would still be hard, creaky plastic underneath. I'm envisioning a different wheel in my near future...

Don recovered mine. Also dyed the horn pad. Perfect work!

^^On that style wheel, you can't get it any thicker..or many options. I was told that when I called for a quote...

They obviously do great work. I'm wondering about the 4 "seams" on the two horizontal bars just near the edge above and below the horn pad. Is this actually a break in the leather and does Dallas wheel recover the whole thing? It looks that way from the pic but I can't tell for sure.

His work is very good but the prices have risen pretty fast. I had him do a wheel just a few years ago for $300 and now it's $350.

Oh, sad to hear the "Carrera" wheel can't be made thicker.
