928 brakes fitting?

Hey guys a friend of mine is parting his 928. Will they fit on my 1980 911sc? Would I have trouble running the fuchs?

S4/GT brakes are the same as 993 calipers. They can be fitted with adapters.
You may want to have them refurbished...

I would do a test fit before buying everything else required to install these. I'm not sure about factory Fuchs, but my HRE Fuchs replicas wouldn't fit without about a .75" spacer and I didn't have room to make that happen (8x17s in the front)...

You can measure on the 928, the distance from the hub/hat out to the caliper and compare to your fuchs. That will tell you how thick spacer you need, because you will need a spacer.

Not to mention that you'll need rotors. The 928 rotors will work if you machine your hubs or you can use some kind of 2 piece rotors, 930 style.

And you'll need a bigger mater cylinder, the 930 one.

That is all seriously helpful. Thank you

S4 calipers on my 69. Can't remember if its 928 or 993 rotors. Not sure 15" Fuchs will work, but 16 will. The 951 fuchs would be ideal.

Just a few mm removed from the hubs.

I have no pictures of the rear, have 930 calipers and rotors there.

993 and S4 rotors are the same thing. 993 just has holes/cross-drilling cast into them.

993 fronts are simple adapters available many places. You can also use a Wilwood HD 309x32 rotor and a simple 1/4" thick flat hat to mount the rotor.

The rears can be fitted to 930 rotors fairly easy. 930 rotor is a direct bolt-on. No modifications whatsoever to the SC rear trailing arm. Even the parking brake works perfectly. 928 rear rotor won't work. Been there, tried that. Too much offset.

The rear caliper can be plugged at the mounting holes and re-drilled 3 inches on-center, 12mm below the bottom of the pad box. One caveat is you have to "widen" the caliper throat a bit with a grinder and also shave your brake pads a slight amount. Reason for this is because the 928 rear caliper is designed to use a 299x24 rotor, whereas the 930 rotor is 309x28 and you have to make up for the additional 4mm of rotor width inside the caliper.

Good luck. Those calipers look pretty grim and what a shame to let a 928 go to crap like that........

BTW the Fuchs won't fit due to caliper clearance. The 928 fronts are very large calipers and you need to move the wheel outward with a spacer. Problem with that is, the SC fenders don't allow you to move the wheel out much at all, else you end up with fender-tire rubbing. The 944T 16x7 Fuchs will clear the caliper. It's really tight but it clears. Or you can get some BBS wheels. The 1 piece cheaper wheels will clear.

The rears need some help for clearance too. I ran 16x8 Fuchs on the rear of my car and used a 14mm spacer to get the caliper clear of the wheel barrel.

Let me know if you'd like some info. on the Wilwood HD/GT rotors, rotor hats & caliper adapters. I can point you to sources for those. It's a nice setup & you don't need to machine the hubs for fitting the 928/993 rotor.

My issue exactly. I was trying to fit 8x16s and there was just no way.

Hey Mike, long time no "talk" What did you end up doing for brakes on your car?
