Modify 1973 to 1972 style oil tank?

Has anyone modified a 1973 911 to move the oil tank forward as in a 1972 style 911?

I know you need to source some parts, and do some bodywork on the quarter panel, but will the safety beam included in the late year 1973 911s be in the way?

I wouldn't modify a '73 in this way....keep it original.

It's possible. All it takes is money. I'd try Kevin Metzner or John Esposito.

The cheapest and easiest way would be to sell the '73 and buy a '72.

Why are you doing this? If it's for weight distribution you might as well put the tank up front and use a racing tank. The quarter panel looks better without the extra panel gap from the oil door.

Thanks. It is for street use.

I am thinking of collecting the parts and trying to get a list of what is needed, and prices.

I see 1972 oil tanks and consoles going for $600 to $750..

I am puzzled as to why you want to do this. Longhoods are getting more and more valuable. Aren't you worried that this will hurt the value of a nice '73 by making it like a '72?

I would be.....just my opinion.

Anything is possible, but I'd agree to just leave it alone. There's a good reason why Porsche switched back after only one year. Gas inn the oil does not lead to longevity of engines!

pretty steep but Porsche tried over & over again to move the oil tank forward; look at the moment arm w.r.t. the Cg and you'll see why

no way to get gas in there w/o the driver popping the lid AFTER opening the Pass. side door - if the driver has a remote clue it will not happen

I can't imagine why you would want to do that on a street car. That said, I have considered doing it on my '71.
There was a recent build thread, can't find it now, where they put an R style external oil cap with no door in the fender. Looked real racy.
