Ground cable

1987 Targa, 3.2.

Can anyone confirm for me that this is the right location for the ground strap at the starter. So basically there is a positive (red) cable from above that is connected to this stud on the starter. Then the ground cable coming from the front of the car assuming it is from the battery attaches to the same terminal. Is this correct? It seems to be the right length and fit. when I took it off this was one part I did not take a picture of or identify.
Thanks.

The positive red cable and ground strap cannot be attached to the same terminal without creating a short. I believe the ground strap attaches to the transmission tail cover.

Well that makes sense to me but I just could not find a spot that it should go to. Did I screw up and mount the engine without attaching this somewhere.

Agree - - the round cable attaches to the starter and the flat copper strap attaches to the transmission and the body next to the shift rod hole. The starter should not have a ground connection - the case is the ground (I think)
Also be sure and check the yellow wire connection to assure a good tight fit - this can come loose and then you have no starter -- we did this once . . . PITA . . .

This is the ground strap at Pelican

Ground cable

Are you sure it is the ground strap?
On my car the positive lead from the battery is black which is not very reassuring to someone used to red positive cables on North American cars.
As an electrician by trade it really bothered me to connect a black and red cable together...

The ground strap runs from a bolt on the body floor near the center tunnel to a transmission housing bolt.

There are two cables attached to the same post on the starter.
One comes from the positive side of the battery and the other one goes to the positive post on the alternator.
The starter is grounded from the front of the trans. to the body.

Ok thanks a bunch for your input. What a great forum this is indeed. Mystery solved. Roy I do have the ground strap attached to the Trans and the body per your reference to the Pelican site. My confusion was as Dennis noted. I was assuming the black lead coming from the front of the car was a ground when as Dennis noted it is the power feed. The red lead is from the Alternator as noted. So I think my setup is correct and there are two wires attaching at the starter. Thanks again.
