Order of installation of engine mounting tin?
I am not sure of the sequence of order. There is the engine mounting metal and there is a horizontal tray with a number of small bolts, that is connected to it.
Below is a pic of the engine mounting vertical piece, but I don't have a pic of the tray. So I have just 2 pieces, the horizontal tray and the vertical engine mounting hardware.

The rear engine tin goes on next. You can see in the picture the side pieces are already installed. The rear piece bolts to the engine and side pieces.

Remove the cross bar to give yourself more room. Put it back on next.

Can you remove that motor mount bracket without pulling the whole engine? I would love to clean all of the old rust and flakey paint off mine and recondition it.

Gazzerr: Certainly! Support the engine from below with a hydraulic jack (do NOT put the jack on the round oil strainer plate!) Raise it until the jack lifts the engine/car an inch or more. Loosen the two large bolts at the end of the mount until the tops raise up from the fixed engine mount. Lower the jack until the engine drops a quarter inch. Remove the bolts. Remove the four bolts that attach the mount to the engine console. Remove the crossbar.
And do NOT move the jack until you get the crossbar back into place. When you reinstall, put the four bolts back in the center of the crossbar but do NOT tighten them. Reinsert and thread the two large bolts at the ends of the crossbar. Raise the jack until the crossbar is tight against the bottom of the fixed engine mounts. Tighten the two large bolts. Tighten the four bolts. Remove the jack. Have a beer. |
