Question irratic RPM readings

So, I just got my '77 911 back from the shop where they did a bunch of work...
Replaced all seals from cylinders out, new dilavar studs, new rockers, oil return tubes etc.
The dropped the engine and tranny and also did som clutch adjustments during installation. So, here's my prob?

-I'm driving home last night and in every gear near 3k rpm's, the tach jumps a bit(up and down between 3 and 4) . I'm hoping that my clutch isn't slipping, but am afraid it might be... could this be an electrical prob?
If it is my clutch, I'm kind of skeptical as I've only driven the car twice since it got out of the shop on tuesday... This is something they should've noticed if they were doing all of this work correct?
I'll take the car back tommorow ortues, but, has this ever happened to any of you? Any ideas on what my prob is...

BTW-I skipped my first autox experience because I don't know what's goin on w/ my p-car
Thanks for the replies,
Pete

Pete,

I would check the tach wire, it is probably loose. You should be able to hear/feel the clutch slip if it is. If it is slipping it just needs readjustment.

I just recall you getting your car. Were you having trouble? or was this all this work preventative? I didn't see any posts.

You could also check your points and/or coil. My 69 behaved like this and it turned out to be shagged points.

Well, I'll check all of that and let you guys know...
My car ran great the whole time, but seeped a bit of oil from the oil return tubes. We then put a UV additive to my oil and drove 50 miles. brought it back to the shop and found that basically everywhere but the case seam was leaking because of poor sealant choices (aka red rtv everywhere). Basically a shoddy rebuild 6k miles ago.
So the shop tore the engine out and tore it apart to the case. We found that the dilavar studs weren't level and were corroding and a couple were bent because some p-car shop in Indianapolis decided to install w/ some vice grips In the meantime we found some abnormal wear on a few rockers. So we took care of all of that plus some to do it right. It's the only way to do it and my mechanic is fantastic...
I'm going to stop by the shop tommorow and he's going to check out my tach...
Thanks for your help.
