Clutch: Performance Friction vs. Sachs
EDIT: Power Friction (not Performance Friction, those are the brake guys! Sorry about that.)
Does anyone have any experience using a Performance Friction clutch disc? I just bought one to put in my 915. There are a couple obvious differences from the Sachs disc. 1) Perf Friction uses 8 small springs to damp, vs 4 larger springs on the Sachs, and 2) the band of friction material is wider on the Perf Friction, matching the contact area on the pressure plate and flywheel, where the Sachs is a bit narrower. Sachs is on the right below. ![]() I was just curious if anyone had anything to share, good or bad. Thanks. Roger

I read a comment from John Walker about using the narrow Sachs in another thread. That may be helpful. Many sellers swear that the narrow Sachs is just fine but they are also selling Sachs. I have a narrow Sachs because I made a package deal on a 915. The narrow Sachs just adds another variable if you are trying to sort out a clutch chatter or other clutch issue.

I've only used Sachs discs since I've owned the car ('98). I can't say that I have ever had a problem with them, I just thought I would give the performance friction a shot. One concern that comes to mind with the Performance Friction disc is whether there will be reduced pressure per sq/in based on the larger contact surface. It's not a monster motor (basically stock 3.2, chip, cat bypass), but it puts out a lot more torque than a 2.4T (my original motor), and I have a LSD with 225/50 tires pushing back on it as well.

Power Friction!!!
Sorry, I referred to the Power Friction disc as Performance Friction (those would be brakes).
