A lot has changed since 1984

Gas was $1.20 a gallon
I was single with no kids
A quart of oil was less than a dollar
My computer was a Tandy 1000 with 256k of RAM and no hard drive
I used Lotus as my spreadsheet to keep car maintenance records
There was no internet for me

But one thing remained the same. I own the same Porsche I bought that year.
April marks 30 years of ownership of my 1979 SC Targa. I never thought when I picked it up that I'd still own it after 30 years. According to the title there was about 57k miles on her then. She has 213k now, still mostly original paint except where I had some rock chips on the hood and door dings removed. The engine has never been rebuilt and it runs stronger now than when I bought it thanks to a set of SSI headers and the dual out Dansk muffler. I just tuned her up last Fall and put a new set of tires on as an anniversary present a couple weeks ago. She still uses no oil but does leave it on the floor in several spots.

When I bought my SC, my other car was a 1984 Toyoto Cellica with the window shade blinds on the back window.

Since then I've picked up a few other German cars, but some days, especially in the Fall, mother nature screams to drive the Targa. I'll walk by 400 HP to get in a 35 year old Porsche just to take the top off, leave the windows up, crank up the heat and find a curvy road. 50 degrees is about perfect Targa weather. I find that I don't need gobs of power to enjoy the drive. The air cooled six above 5k rpm screams and always sounds like all he**s breaking loose even at two digit speeds.

A few anniversary photos to celebrate. And thanks to Pelican Parts. My knowledge of Porsches and ability to perform my own maintenance on them has grown exponentially because of this board. There's no repair I'm afraid to take on knowing the answers are all here.

One of my favorite photos of the SC

Big brother parked next to the SC (and she has been lowered with Bilsteins and M030 setup since the photo)

Love the view from the rear

For raw power and Brute force

Final addition last year; no slouch 0-60 in 5.5 seconds

No more bra........

It has been a while since I last saw a 911 with a bra..........they look much better with no bra. And look more attractive. There was period when (sports) cars have to have bra to look sportier. That era was history now.

Congrats to you as well. 20 years is a long time. Shows just how strong the SC platform is.

Thanks.

I think I'll take your advice and enjoy; by driving the SC to work tomorrow. It'll probably wake up the neighbors even with one of the exhaust outlets plugged.

Let's see, 1984:

I was 13. Listening to a lot of ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Rush, Scorpions, etc on cassettes on a generic Radio Shack walkman. I dressed like a west coast surfer, even though I lived in the desert in NM, no where near any water. I had a couple of old dirt bikes I rode around on. My biggest priority was finding girls to make out with

Yes, a lot has changed since 1984

Nice collection of cars, BTW

A beautiful stable of German Muscle you've got there, especially the "twins". I just passed 10 years of ownership with my 84, amazing how time flies!
