225/50R16"s
Have them on the rear and 205/55-16 on the front. of the 1987 Coupe
Can I just buy 245s for the rear and put the 225s on the front without any major mod's (new wheels, spacers, ect.) |

Depends on your wheels, how low the car sits, how much camber you run, etc.
First, to even consider this you need 7" & 8" wheels, not the more typical 6" & 7". If you have 16x8 for the rear, the 245/45 is pretty straightforward. But the 225/50 on the front will be tight at best. You may need to adjust the ride height, dial in more negative camber, roll the fenders, or a combination of these.

my 205/55-16 fronts (on 7x16 911 fuchs) still have a bit of fender rub even after rolling my front fenders (running continental extreme contact dw tires), couldn't imaging running my 225/50-16 rear tires up there without additional fender work. That said, I believe this to be the result of the 7x16 fuchs offset. Non-factory wheels may bring the tire in a bit and avoid the fender rubbing. This applies to a non-wide-body car too (86 carrera)
