Targa hardtop roof
Hi, I just recently purchased a '71 Targa. That car came with the Folding and with the hardtop. The previous owner who owned the car for 10 years never used the hardtop roof. I tried it yesterday and it fits like glove. I will try to attach couple of pictures of that roof. It seems to genuine Porsche hardtop roof. The condition is very good even though it's missing the headliner. Could you verify if it's the genuine one and also what would be value for such rare roof nowadays?

The fiberglass tops were available in the mid 70s cars (until the power brake system prevented it fitting in the front trunk). They did fit and worked nicely, and there are other aftermarket one piece tops available besides the factory one you have. I seem to remember my 1975 Targa had small brackets in the front trunk to hold the top in place. A top is currently being fabricated out of carbon fiber, and Saratoga Tops made a transparent Lexan top back in the day.
Value is what someone wants to pay for it. Generally, most folks had the folding top on their cars and yours will only fit in the front trunk of cars up to model year 1976. Either way, it's nice to have and may seal better than the folding top.

Yup that looks like the real McCoy to me.
I replaced the headliner on mine with a piece of leather, pretty easy DIY I've got a '75 and cannot seem to get the hard top into the front trunk, so it goes upright behind the seats, or I'll put my extra folding top in the front trunk in case I need to secure the car while out on a run. I would not ever consider selling my top. So the price/value is moot (to me) Here is bit of trivia, the factory hard tops were Standard equipment and the folding tops were an option. Most cars were ordered with the folding top because the gave the feel of a convertible better than the hard top.

Looks real, just like the one I have for me car sans the headliner.
Do a search in the pelican classifieds to see what others have asked for a value if you really want to sell it.

I'll chime in with the others; your top looks like my factory hard top.
It fits in the frunk if you have the back of the roof toward the fuse box. I've seen these tops sell for a pretty wide range - ~$1k - $4k+. |
