Is it possible to upgrade a 1985 to the 1986 to 1989 dash pad relatively easily?

Not sure, I have never done it. I opened a post in our forums. A Pelican community member may be able to answer your question.

The dash pad itself should bolt down no problem if you use an '86 dash pad. However, The two unknowns from me would be the defroster vent and the center A/C vent. The defroster vent on the 86 and up is anchored by screws that are secured by raised supports on the dash frame. the A/C vent is specific to the 86' up through 964 cars. You'd have to get the A/C vent but not sure if you would be able to connect it to the blower duct behind. The difference in shape makes me think that would be problematic.
One way to know would be to compare pictures of the metal dash with the pad removed on an '85. If I could see that I could give you a better indication. Chris. |
^^ What he said.
The dash will fit but you'll have to find a way to anchor the windshield defroster vent as it's held in by 5 or 6 screws. But the rest of the dash should stay put with out the vent. |
You can use the search function to look at the threads from others who have done it.

Here's a thread on "84 dash replaced by a 964 dash. I think the 964 dash is the same as
''86-'89. Good luck! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/595939-my-dash-swap-964-dash-84-carrera.html |
