HELP! Alternator End Cap?
My alternator took a dive this week and I'd like to be able to drive my car to the "AutoFest" this weekend. My problem is that the shop that is rebuilding my alternator can not find a end cap-bearing cover since they say this is a rare alternator. I've been on the phone serching high and low.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Last edited by smestas; 09-13-2002 at 01:14 PM.. |

Simon,
It is a sealed bearing the cap covers. My cap also fell to pieces when I had it off for some repair. Best to find another cap. Since my alternator was/is marginal and I figured it would need rebuilding in a year or so, I cut out a circle from racers tape and stuck it on. Yes it's not the correct way to go, but in the short term.... o well. You will probably have to call a few other shops to find a cap. Good luck. Tinker |

Tinker,
Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I wish I could just cover the bearing with something but my cap also had sides to it (see the extra pieces left side of photo) which acted as a shim for the bearing. Without this piece the bearing and shaft of the alternator move. I'm still looking! |

Auto Lectrics Alternators Starters at 1360 White Oaks Road, Campbell, has it. ph # 408-559-3540. I had the same problem last year. I go to this shop for all parts on starters, alternators, etc. Call them up, give them the exact dimensions(diameter), because there are two different sizes, and have them mail it to you.
