Where is this leaking?
Man those are some crapy pictures. I can't even tell what side of the engine that is (driver side maybe? Looks like the oil output line on the far left side of the first picture?). Could be any number of things. Is it only on cylinders 1 and 2?
clean it all off....short drive...locate source. Too much oil and too manny possible sources.

The overall pattern suggest a classic oil overfill. The perfect alibi to spend a crap load of cash on unessasary upgrades.
It's a lot of oil, so I'm with Shane on this.
If it was less I would be concerned it was broken headstuds, which just makes it seep oil from all the wrong places. Well, it did on mine. |
Looks like head stud issues to me.

Being a 77, they are pulled and wont torque but you can try.

I hope its not stud issues, this engine was rebuilt shortly before I bought it, Timecerts, hydraulic tensioners, all the upgrades. thanks for the feedback! this sure is a great site, great people!
Far too premature to say head-studs right now. Clean it up, and then see what happens.

Got any suggestions on how to clean it up, the car is in the middle of spring plate bushing replacement in my garage so power washing it would be a little complicated.
Put a bunch of newspapers under the car. Liberally douse engine bottom with Gunk(original formula). Let sit for about 10 or 15 minutes. Then, take a small brush(es), some rags, and a squirt bottle of water. Scrub and rinse for what feels like forever. Then you'll have all the oil off the engine.
head to cylinders leaks from the looks of it.
Not crazy about Gunk too aggressive on paint and alloy. Try Mineral spirits and follow up with Dawn.
I think that you could tell if it was an overfill by looking at the top half of the engine, I recommend doing a partial drop and removing the intake and cowl, then you can clean up the mess if that's what you find, otherwise you should be able to tell if it is leaking from somewhere else. If you don't see a mess of oil on the top, then you can be pretty sure it's coming from between the heads and cylinders.
