2.2T piston upgrade question
Hi all,
I have a 1971 911 2.2T that needs rebuilding. I was wanting to replace the 2.2T pistons with JE 2.2S pistons to increase compression. Can I do just this without changing anything else (no changes in cylinder heads/crankshaft/cam shafts). Thanks for everyone's help in advance. |

Yes. Check for valve clearance but you should be fine with the stock T cams.
But, while you are in there... ![]() I would go with a 2.4 crank/rods and E cams. Vroom vroom!!

Thanks. I want to keep it simple. High compression pistons don't seem to much different in cost from the low compression ones.

Just be careful as the JE pistons may have too much dynamic compression. The T cam does not have as much lift, nor rate of lift during opening. This can create a situation where you have too much dynamic compression at low rpm which can cause detonation. You might want to consider a different cam to match your higher compression pistons. Even an E cam or Solex would do wonders for the engine for not much cost input.

^^what he said.
the E cam would be nice or up to a 2.4 sorry, i am not a fan of the JE pistons. they dont have the offset the mahles have. i have also heard they can be noisey at startup when cold.

JEs are fine. And yes, change cams. E or Solex. I have a spare set of Solex cams and your be shocked how much they wake up a motor with S pistons AND they work awesome on T port specs.
