Fiberglass aftermarket bumpers

With respect to mid '80's 911 Carreras, it is not uncommon to see original factory bumpers replaced by fiberglass bumpers, for example the Ruf reproduction bumpers. Obviously, they are not as strong or protective as the originals, or are they installed in such a way as to minimize loss of impact strength? Are they typically attached to the original bumper mounts/tubes with hidden "crash bars" or other reinforcements? How are these aftermarket bumpers typically mounted?

They are mounted using the original crush tubes ... although many times the studs that are glassed into the fiberglass bumpers will need to be relocated as they will not match the holes in the crush tubes.

It's a good weight reduction diet for your car but you will need to fiddle and modify them to fit correctly !

Cheers

They can also be attached w/ vertical screws through the fender flanges, either way works, each has +/- associated w/ it

My guess is that almost nobody puts a crash bar behind them.
