fuel leak

Greetings...At long last I found and bought my '87 930 and drove it home yesterday...on the way I filled up twice and it leaked fuel from the driver's side front fender on both fill ups...there's a hose that comes from the trunk area and terminates behind the head light...no smell of fuel in the trunk, only a steady drip in front of the tire...I don't think I over filled it, as no fuel ran out of the overflow tube behind the tire

eventually the leak stopped, but now the garage smells like fuel

please be gentle as I'm a noob and I'd appreciate any help

thanks!

I believe there should be an expansion tank in the fender as part of the evaporative emmissions system. The tank holds excess fuel when filling up and returns the fuel to the tank when filled, and also vents the fumes to the charcoal cannister in the engine compartment.
If the lines are old and cracked, replace them.

Mine does that too... drips from the same spot. I found if I fill the tank full it's more likely to happen, particularly if you don't drive far from the station to your garage and park it. I just haven't gotten around to swapping out that vent line so I only add 10-12 gallons at a time... keeps the weight down too!

Stop on the first click... you are filling your vapour tank ... That said however it shouldnt do that .. you need a new piece of hose and a couple of fuel line clamps..

Agreed it's not normal to leak but it's only when the tank is completely full / overfilled.

On the plus side (not that any gas leak is really a "plus"), it's going to seep / drip straight to the ground and it's not near any heat / electrical sources. Mine's been this way for over a year now and if you watch how full you fill the tank you can still drive the car without much concern. If it's always damp with gas or a strong constant fuel smell you better fix sooner than later. There are a few other gas vent lines buried in the wheel well so plan on doing all of them while in there.
