Testimony to the superiority of Porsche

Got out of my car this morning in the lot at work, parked next to a nice (as nice as it can be) white Mitsu 3000 GT. I had noticed the bright red front calipers before, but never paid much attention since red calipers are pretty common these days, but the location of the wheels this morning showed me "CHE" on the caliper. It was then that I realized that this person had installed Porsche "Big Reds" on the front of his Mitsu. I have a new found respect for the unknown driver, at least he/she appreciates quality.

Would that be anti-rice?

I saw a turbo Beetle with the same mod earlier this year.

If you do a bit of a search you will find that Big Reds is a pretty popular upgrade for certain high performance cars.

Fair enough too - they are HUUUUUGE.

O.K., but why would someone want "Porsche" on a non-Porsche? I would much prefer "Brembo" on my brakes. Must have bought them for "status"! and Bling Bling points. Sheesh.

Big Reds are a big upgrade for BMW 540 brake systems. Do not have on mine but have driven a 540 with them. Makes a big difference in stopping power.

Status or not, the Porsche ones are probably superior to the Brembo ones at least for some of them. (How can that be when Brembo makes the Porsche brakes?) Brembo makes the Porsche brakes to Porsche's specs - which are often higher than Brembos. I believe the Brembo equivalent of Porsche Big Red's have smaller bolts holding the caliper halves together for example. Ultimate Garage used to have an explanation of the differences but their web site has changed and that info no longer appears.

That person has better taste in calipers than cars (Mits 3000 "GT").
