Overdue introduction, with required pics!
SO... I should have introduced myself before I started posting, but... better late then never. I've had a busy Porsche year, bought a 986 Boxster S a year ago, and Porsche fever set in. Unable to control the flood of teenage memories of SC's and Carreras, I could no longer wait, and picked up a 1981 SC a month back. Its a US model that lived in five states and with far too many owners, baking under sunshine that has not been kind to the paint or interior. 155K miles. The PO bought it from an importer who had brought it to Norway to sell it, and he found out the hard way why a PPI is necessary. Bad for the PO but good for me... poor guy owned it only two years and coughed up for an engine rebuild to Euro spec, SSIs, Dansk muffler, tires, caliper rebuilds and brake pads, new CV joints, 930 dampers, alignment, etc etc. I managed to negotiate a good deal. :D
So while the car is cosmetically worn, its rust-free and goes like a top. Biggest issue looming will be a gearbox rebuild... the LSD is groaning on low speed turns and when starting from a stop while turning. The plan is to fully restore the interior and do a tasteful hotrod backdate with a respray in the original Minerva Blue. Looking forward to sharing the progress when I finally get started on it... for now I'll drive the car as it is and enjoy it! Cheers! http://evan.com/minerva/Minerva_27.04-1.jpg http://evan.com/minerva/Minerva_27.04-6.jpg http://evan.com/minerva/Minerva_27.04-10.jpg http://evan.com/minerva/Minerva_27.04-18.jpg |
Awesome car! Doesn't look so bad in the photos.
|
Nice car with a beautiful background.
|
Car looks pretty darn good to me! I love blue interiors on 911s.
|
Very nice and congrats.
|
I see your location is Norway and Spain, what a great drive between the two to really enjoy that car!
|
Welcome,
Beautiful car and beautiful scenery, the Minerva blue of the car goes very well with water and ice of the fiords/channels in the background. The scenery looks very much like Canada's West Coast. |
I wanna be your overnight guest for a month or two .... Please

For the noisy LSD, it could be a case of the wrong oil in it. Kendall 80W-90 GL-5 Gear Oil With LSD Additive (1 Quart): Porsche 911 (1974-1989) - Accessories and Fluids - Page 1 |
Thanks everyone! SmileWavy
Come on over and visit, we have a hotel and brewery, so it will be one good party. Regarding the gearbox oil, the PO changed it with Mobilube 75W-90 SHC gear lube two years back. Supposed to be good for P-cars both with and without LSD. Thanks fornthe tip on the Kendall, I'll see if I can get it here. Other suggestions? |
Congrats, that's a nice looking car. If you are looking for suggestions try updating to a quality shifter like a RennShift. I wish I would have done it years ago. Enjoy!

Awesome pictures. Beautiful color and landscape.
|
Nice wheels - and like the color - welcome!
|
What do you mean by tasteful backdate?
Awesome car by the way and cool color. Not my car but, but I think these SC's, mid years and Carreras stand on their own these days and making them something they are not has to be a personal passion. All these cars when they are sorted out mechanically and cosmetically are just friggin marvels of engineering. Taking a knife to these cars should give one pause, the days of it is just an SC are long gone. |
Have you driven by a fjord.... Lately?
Old ford commercial and couldn't help myself. Nice car and welcome to the forum. |
looks like a fantastic place to drive your newly acquired 911, congrats
|
That's a fantastic color.
|
Welcome, beautiful car too! Congrats!
|
