How do I remove the rear hubs on my 69 911?

You have to drive it out from the inside. You will have to replace the bearing.

Hopefully nothing's wrong with your bearings. Are they squealing? If so you may not be able to apply enough force to drive the hub out from the back because of space limitations. A big a$$ puller may help from the outside or you may have to take off the bananna and use a hydraulic press. And to remove the bananna the tranny has to be removed. And to remove the tranny the engine has to be removed. But there's a lot of "while you're in there" stuff to do to make it worthwhile, and an engine only takes about 1/2 hour to remove.

Geez-o Petes... No need for all that... I've replaced many a rear bearing (okay, three) without removing engines, transmissions, flux-tranducer modules and the like... Take the half shaft and the bearing retainers off... Buy a cheap socket that is slightly smaller than the bearing, and firmly tap (read pound) the bearing out.
To put the new bearing in, freeze it, warm up the hub with a mild torch (no oxy here, propane is good). A slight chamfer on the inner edge of the bearing with some emory paper makes it go in easier as well. Tap (read TAP) it in with same socket...

it's reasonably easy, without getting too carried away. strip off the caliper and rotor first, of course. i use two, three foot long snapon screwdriver looking prybars. one on each side of the flange, with their tips against the retaining bolts under flange. then you just pull it out. some come easy, some need more persuasion. don't do it while on jack stands, as you might pull it sideways off the stands. don't pop it out into your crotch, or let it fall on your toe. pounding on the inside of the hub just messes up the hub, and rarely works.

Perhaps I'm filled with dumb luck, that and lack of a puller, it's worked for me... But Johns advice is better...
(especially the part about the crotch thing, I took a good whack getting the front hub dust caps a month ago, old man across the street actually put his oxygen tank on and walked over just to make sure I was okay...) ![]()

I think I'm going to try using the old socket and hammer trick. This seems to be the easiest. I'll take some pictures of the hubs after I get the bolt pattern changed. The fronts are in the process of getting machined now. Thanks for the help, Mark

why in the hell are you machining the front and rear hubs for? thats what i would do...put a chevrolet wheel on your porsche. next you will be putting that v-8 in it and saying its the fastest car you have ever drove. you will want to run everyones car and say look i can beat you in the quarter mile but i cant make the corner at the end. dont forget the heritage of your car! keep it original and be happy with it.
