Headlining Insulation question?
Hi Guys,
On removing my old headlining there are strips of material glued to the roof some slowly peeling off, my question is what should I replace these with before installing the new headlining, would a Dynamat style of product work? Regards Nigel |

Dynamat would work fine for the roof although it may be expensive because of the minimum quantity that you would likely have to buy. Also it will be heavier if that is an issue.
However, you will also need some 1/4" foam about 2-3" wide to line all the edges around the perimeter of the headliner, down all the pillars and sun roof opening. It will result in a smoother finish and hide the imperfections/sharp edges on the steel. Joann's Fabrics in the U.S. carries an excellent fabric backed foam headline underlay at about $14/yard. I bought some when I was in the U.S. last month. It comes in gray and tan although tan is only offered on the web. Headliner Tan Utility Vinyl at Joann.com The grey stuff I bought has a product number #400034960644 on the store receipt. You should also consider using a high heat adhesive (3M makes one) to handle the strong Tasmanian heat and sun. Hope this helps. Cheers, Johan

I used 1/8" felt and spray glued it to the underside of the roof. I was trying to save weight, so no Dynamat for me.
