Hi Gerry,
I've purchased one earlier this for garage and track support for a 78
Much heavier duty than I was expecting and on full extension at second safety lock it is quite high and provides good access.
Works great, very happy, with good factory/agent support.

I bought the 5000SLX from Pelican a few months ago. I haven't lifted the 911 yet, but I've used it on our CRV, RAV4, and WRX. Works very well, and I'm glad I bought it. Some things to be aware of:

1) You don't need to be absolutely level. It can be used at up to a 7% grade, which is my driveway. Just be aware that you can't stack the rubber blocks or likely use the SUV adapters. They tend to tip over on a slope. But if you just use a single rubber block, it is very stable, and I have no worries getting underneath. I stack a couple of 2x12 boards under the Quickjack to gain some extra height under the SUVs.
2) The long hydraulic lines come connected together, like a zip cord. They need to be separated, and I found that impossible to do without cutting through to the steel wrap underneath. Quite disappointed with this, but I just wrapped the hoses tightly in electrical tape and they work fine.

3) You don't get any dust caps for the hydraulic fittings. Go to Ace Hardware and pick up some rubber tips for canes and crutches. The 1-1/8-inch size fit snugly on the female fittings, and the 7/8-inch fit on the male fittings.

4) Jack Olsen has posted a video review: https://youtu.be/4I0N888ek8M
5) I bought the 12V version. Works great with my Harbor Freight 12V jumpstart battery.

Mark

Does it lift high enough to pull a motor out of a 911?

Noticed you are in Oz.

Did you get a 240V unit?
How much (roughly) do they go for here?

Sorry for the thread hijackTarga.

Zelrik,
Call Karl at Garage Equipment in Queensland on 0439700851 or email: karl@garageequipment.com
He's the Australian agent/importer. Good guy and I had mine delivered within days.
Tell him your a Porsche club member and he should look after you (not apply a Porsche tax)
I got mine a while ago when the Fx rate was better but should get the 240v 5000lb unit for around AUD$2300 shipped within Australia depending on location.

I've got one

I've had mine over a year nod used it to swap engines in a 914. I had to use some blocks to get it high enough although I need about 30" to get the /6 with carbs to fit. It's handy for general stuff and quick to use. I don't have much ceiling height in my garage and I can just hang the units from the wall when not needed. The draw back is that your friends might want to borrow it

I bought the 3500 as all of my cars are <= that weight. I did not realize it is a bit short (read specs carefully and measure car's jack pionts). but putting a 2X8 on top has worked for me on several different cars, including 911 and 944s.

my 951 and 911 are lowered, so I roll them onto the rubber pads to be able to slip the lift and 2X8 under it and still get small rubber blocks on the lift points.

I set it up so there is only a couple inches of the 2X8 extended to the lift points with no noticeable bending. and even if it breaks, car will just settle on the chassis. so I do not see any danger in this. and if I am going under the car, add jack stands at alll 4 corners.

I may fab up a frame extension using 1" square steel tubing at some point to bolt to the top of the existing frame.

love it for what I use it for.

Agree with Tracker,
This is good advice.
I nearly went for the 3500 series before carefully checking the specs. It's too short.

I was concerned about the length fitting between the wheelbase but it's ok
I have the 5000 and you want the 5000 series as a minimum for a 911 because of the extra frame length. It's also that bit stronger and gives you the extra confidence, plus the flexibility to use on later model (heavier cars).

That 3500 looks awfully small...I would use it to increase efficiency when working on hubs, brakes, rotors, etc., but there's no way I would crawl myself under there...no way.

General consensus seems to be that it won't lift a 911 high enough to get the engine out from underneath. At least not without some kind of double-lift. I think one option might be to use the Quickjack to drop the engine, then lower the car and bring in a regular jack to get the back end high enough to slip the engine out from underneath.

Another thing to be aware of is that the car moves forward about a foot as it raises because of the way the Quickjack is hinged.

In my garage my max lift is only about 30 inches due to an I-beam that supports the house above, so other options like a MaxJax make no sense for me. I also like being able to use it in the driveway (we have five cars, but only the 911 is in the two-car garage).

Here is a photo with my RAV4 on the 5000SLX. I could have gotten a higher lift with the 2x12s underneath, but this was for a tire rotation and I didn't need the extra height.

I like it for getting all four wheels off the ground quickly. Seems pretty stable also.

as I said, if I go under I set jack stands at all 4 corners. now have my 928 up on the 3500, added a 3rd set under the end of the QJ too.

I agree you can never be too safe if going under...
