Awesome! I love it! Looks great!

UPDATE:
I was a little delayed in visiting my client regarding the WEVO bushings, but I was there today and we went over the details. If all goes well, I should have a few in about two weeks. Since this will be a small batch, I'm going to need to try and piggyback a few on another anodizing (black) order, since it's just not cost effective to have only 5 done. I think the actual production run won't happen for a month at a minimum. They've got a couple big jobs taking up the machines right now. |
I received my new shift knob and thought I'd take a minute to post some pics and add some additional information.
I have an '87 with G50 gearbox. When I received the shift knob, I also received a shim and allen head screwdriver for the 2 set screws in the base of the knob: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403490785.jpg The knob slides down onto the shaft almost the depth of the shim in the above pic (I had to dremel maybe 1/8" off to avoid it sticking out the underside of the shift knob when installed). This ultimately creates a sort of poor man's short shifter, as the knob sits probably 1-2" lower than the stock knob. Big thanks to Dave Mason for the great work. The new knob just further reflects how tired my shift boot leather looks. Here's a couple more pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403490976.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403490991.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403491009.jpg |
Thanks for posting the pix and info! The shim isn't my creation and I believe this may be the second G50 install. I'll talk to TRE and we'll get the shim trimmed right.
Looks great, even with the tired shift boot. :) That's right, I turned yours to 52mm, not 48mm. I can see the difference. Despite it being a bit lower, is it comfortable? |

Update:
I now have a few pre-production WEVO bushings in hand. Three are out for black anodizing (one already spoken for), the rest are the Al silver. They fit both the 1st gen WEVO shifters and the 2nd gen. These bushings do not have set screws. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1405736436.jpg For the 924/944/968 guys that may see this, I also have a handful of pre-production bushings done for you as well. I haven't figured out a shift boot solution yet, so the early buyers may have to figure that out on their own, but I am working on some ideas.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1405736547.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1405736564.jpg SmileWavy |
I have two black anodized bushings (and a number of sliver) for the WEVO shifter and one silver bushing to fit the Rennline shifter. The bushing has the correct bore and bolt like the WEVO bushing...

Totally mind blowing and completely awesome! A 917 in Gulf livery that is owned by Bruce Canepa was shown at Monterey this year after a complete overhaul..... It now wears one of my shift knobs!!!! There's a shot of it in the 4th pic.

Awesome!
Congrats Dave!! |
Thank you, G. :)

Jr., no and I'm pretty sure that would be another "no" from Porsche Classic. :D These knobs are not replicas, just inspired. I don't see why Porsche would really be interested in them, though... If they wanted to talk about balsa/birch replica's...
Looks like the first Rennshift knob has been installed. I don't have pix, but hopefully they will be posted soon. My beta-tester had to do a little sanding on the inside of the bushing to make it fit, so I have to enlarge the I.D. of the bushing hole slightly, but other than that, it's a go! |
Here's an iphone photo for now of the knob on my new Rennshift. I can highly recommend both!
I'll update with a photo with a real camera soon. http://www.cliffbrunk.com/Forum/IMG_4245%20copy.jpg |
Thanks, motofoto! Looks great! Thank you for your patience and for being able to modify that first bushing slightly! Adjustments will be made on my end to future bushings to alleviate the tight fit. ;)

I'm long overdue for posting a couple of pics of my knob. These aren't great, but you get the idea. The quality, fit and feel of these knobs are fantastic. I've been using it now for about three months. Mine installed on the stock short shifter with out a hitch. Hardest part was getting the old knob off. I loctited the threads as advised and it's been perfect. Thanks Dave! SmileWavy

Very good !!!

The same...but a little not.
Different twist, checkered flag inspired. Each square a separate piece of wood. Takes some time...

Looks good, Pete!
Wevo is a go. I'll see about getting them in the catalog next week. I only have a handful of silver bushings at the moment. I am going to put in an order for more bushings this coming week as well and will have a bunch set aside to anodize black. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411882566.jpg Photo by owner |
A little time lapse vid of me turning a knob from start to finish. No layup or gluing of bushing.

The second will be better. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413264225.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413264239.jpg |
