What is a "water pump"? Something to do with the windshield washers?

Drago, that is the normal look for the hose. It is big on one end and small on the other. Really strange looking hose.
Bell, it took about 7 hrs altogether. I bought the car with broken belts a couple years ago. Put new belts on and drove it for two years. Pump started to leak last week, so new pump and new belts again. No, I didnt change the tensioner.
And Tyson, if you were paying attention, you would see that I also have a 1983 SC. SCWDP forever!

Oh I get it. This thread is intended as a mind expanding experience about how the "other half" lives!

If I remember correctly, the water cooling system was one of the systems which Dr. Porsche simplified to the point of just removing it all together, along with its weight, hoses, pumps and belts. It was a group of mortals who decided somewhere down the line that Porsches needed them.

(BTW - I really like 944's, I used to own one!)

Robert...
Nice going....
First hose to normally give you trouble on the cooling system is the heater hose at the very rear of the engine where the heater switch is (plastic lever fitting). Its a bugger to get to, but if you can, keep a spare in the tool box. Also get a few copper washers that fit under the bleeder screw on the "round" upper engine housing. When you bleed out the air after flushing, its easy to loose them if you unscrew the screw too much, and if you do not have an extra onboard, the coolant will drip. A 944 coolant weak spot! I found occassionally bleeding the system helps!!

I was a 944 owner for 12 years and got 345,000 miles out of my 85.5 without any engine or tranny work aside from a head gasket replacement. Take it from me, Chevron Techron, Swepco in the tranny, Bosch Platinum plugs and Valvoline 20-50 racing kept the old girl running.................
I
f ever your header manifold ever cracks, and they will in time, do yourself a favor and pick up a set of the early 944 cast iron units. I tried welding my stainless units and it never was a good cure. Porsche was wise in starting with the cast iron headers early in the game.

Great cars.................good luck..
