			Guys,

Have watched and learned from this forum for a while now, and usually get answers to my queries from the archives but I am stuck on this one. I have Euro 3.2 '87 911. It has started to idle at 2000rpm when hot. It has done this for about 2 weeks, and now is stalling when cold aswell! Have read a couple posts about this type of thing e.g. Sticky idle problem on 3.2 and have heard a lot about the idle stabaliser valve. Am I on the right track, or should I be looking elsewhere. your help is appreciated.

			Hi there...

I had an intermitant start problem on my UK 89 3.2 as well as a tendancy for the idle to drop to where it would almost stall. One of the things I tried to cure my starting problem was placing a resistor across the cylinder head temperature sensor connector to the dme controller. I mention this because once when after a very short trip the car wouldnt start. I shoved the resistor in and the car started but the idle was up around 1500-2000 rpm. It could mean that you cylinder head temp sensor is flaky/not grounding. Is it the 2 wire or the original 1 wire. If you could come by MK sometime I can swap the idle valve either with my old one or even with the new one I fitted a month ago and see if it makes any difference. Andy |

that sounds useful. I am in St. Albans, so not far from MK. Where is the cylinder head sensor? I'll have a look which one it is. I guess swapping the idle valve is not a big job? I dont actually know where it is either. I am going to be tied up until next week at the moment, but could come over then? regards Hugh

Some time ago the idle on my '88 would fluctuate as soon as it warmed up. At Warren's suggestion, I replaced the O2 sensor and the problem disappeared immediately. It's cheap and easy though to just try a new DME relay.

89911, a quick chat with Andy (teardrop) would suggest that Euro cars dont have the 02 sensor. My car does not have a cat.

OK, a quick update - it is fixed.

basically the throttle linkage at the point where it pivots on the gearbox was gummed up. A quick clean and it is all sorted. Thanks for the advice.
