Wiring to the coil and distributor is "melted"

How do I solve this? I must renew the wires from the CD-box to the distributor and Coil. As you can see in the photos, the negative wire from the coil to "earth" on the fan housing has melted together with the positive wire. For some reason the negative wire lies around the positive wire in an "S-bend".

The negative wire from the CD-box is attatched to two negative wires that are spun around the positive wires for the ignition, I have marked these with brown crosses in the photo. I guess this is original...

The wiring to the distributor, connected to the side of it, is also in a bad state, so I will renew these wires at the same side.

Do I just renew the wires, or should I connect the negative wires to another "earth-point" at the engine or the body of the car?

I am very grateful for every suggestion! It would be great it someone has a drawing of how this can be done. (I am sorry to say that I don't have much insight into electrical matters).
Many thanks for help!

The wiring for the CDI and distributor from '73.5 to '77 uses a coaxial wire with the braided sheath wrapped around the center wire.
I could build a replacement CDI harness for you this weekend and have it in the mail on Monday. You can run it externally to the original or open the main harness and wrap it in after removing the old sections.
PM me for more information.

Gee Shucks...
Thanks for the kind words.

I suggested through email he can either cut open his harness and replace the wiring then re-wrap the harness.
Or, replace it with the earlier style version that runs external to the engine harness (Pre 73.5) with a couple of slight mods to make it connect correctly. (and just cut off the old CDI wiring remaining in the main harness) My personal choice as I really don't like the way they did it from '73.5 to '77. Easy to have problems like the OP has.

I also sent him pictures of the type he has as it is built with some instruction on the type of wire he needs and how to route the wire and make specific connections. Also sent a picture of the earlier style harness.

I also offered to build him either style and send it to him in Norway for a great price.

Also directed him to this place, Kind of pricey considering they don't include the 3 pin CDI connector and custom wiring as needed that I would for a lot less including shipping 1/2 way around the world....

Hi .-) Timmy has been of good help! He even offered to build a new harness for me! As I live some distance from you, I chose to try and mend this myself...

I split the original harness and dug out the wires I need to replace. I have replaced the one from the 3 pin connection to the coil. It was the negative/ground wire from the coil to the fan-housing that had melted.

When I was at it I will also change the wires from the cd box to the distributor. When I removed the old wires here, I found something that I thought strange. The wire to the distributor is of the same coaxial type as the one going to the coil. What I found was that the negative/ground outer part of this coaxial cable was going to a ground on the engine block, and that the inner part (positive I guess??) went to the side of the distributor. From what I "think I see" from the Haynes coupling-list that I have the wire to the distributor should be negative/ground?!?
I have marked the coaxial wire in the photo, with the 2-pin coupling.

The contact on the side of the distributor was "loose" and rickety and didn't have a good tight grip.

Many thanks for helping me out with this. As You can all see, I am not very clever with electrics...
