Temperature Sender?

'71 911T (2.2 out of a '70). If I'm reading parts diagram correctly (i may not be), my car is missing the temp sender, (should be where that cad-plated bolt is below the engine number). Did the '70 2.2 not have a sender there? I'd like to put one in the question is which is correct. I do have a functional temp guage and its lives in the middle of the white arc (go figure) Diagram shows PN 901 641 632 00 which looks like button type sender (how would black wire attach?). Shouldn't this part have spade connector though for the black wire to attach?

Thanks,

Matt

It's the top one, I think. MUST be matched to the instrument. The female connector slided over the "button" from the side.. IIRC, the female connector is of a slightly different configuration. The standard type 'may' not slip over the 'male' part.

Makes sense. I guess the female connector would be slightly "U" shaped to slip over the disc horizontally. How would I go about matching sender to instrument??

Matching: use the part numbers as printed in the shop manual. The temperature range stamped on the sender may be another way. As I recall, and I could very well be mistaken, the female part is slightly wider than the conventional kind, and is at a right angle to the axis of the wire. I am not where my car is, and I can't go out and look. My car is earlier, anyway, so it might be different.

It depends on your gauge. I have a 85 with a gauge without numbers and had a sending unit out of a 74 in my 3.2 (previous owner installed) it made me think my car was running hot. I think PP only lists 2 sending units. 1 for the earlier cars with a gauge that has numbers for temp and then the later models without numbers.

Yeah mine has the colored arcs (no numbers) so I'd have to find the sender that's compatible with that I guess

"Usually" there are numbers expressed in Centigrade but are hidden under the bezel. Cock your head to the side, using a flashlight may help.

I'd give P.P a call and give them the part number of your gauge then have them match the sending unit.
