Stripped Threads
I recently bought an Odyssey battery and Rennline mount. The mount is really well done and looks great in the car. Unfortunately, after a 2 hour drive, I discovered that the forward bolt threads are stripped. It will no longer tighten down and hold. I am borrowing the attached picture from another thread because it shows both where I need to tie down the assembly (like the mount in the picture) and where the OEM battery clamp would mount.
![]() The entire battery mounting area appears to be a formed piece of metal welded into the front of the car. And I can’t find any access to it. I am temporarily sliding the battery forward and using the bolt hole for the original batter clamp. Since I like to DE and AX the car, this is not an acceptable long term solution. Anyone have an idea on how to permanently fix this? Perhaps going from the M8 bolt to a 5/16th’s and see if I can get good bite? How about drilling through to the bottom of the car and using a long bolt with large washers? Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Can't you just repair the stripped mount with a Helicoil or other repair insert (Timeserts)?

![]() Sell the Rennline and buy a cutting board. FWIW, I have not had to tighten mine since I installed it at the end of 2007. It's taken several hundred thousand miles of abuse and neglect.

take the bolt to a hardware store, and measure the thread pitch and bolt size. Get the next size up standard (not metric) thread tap. Tap the threads, following the original thread and buy a standard bolt.

Thought a quick follow-up on this might be helpful for anyone that stumbles across this thread on a search.
The area under the battery is a raised platform. The two tie down locations have the threads in an attached (probably welded) reinforcement. It's right there, easy to see with a flashlight. Original size takes a M8x1.25. I did as rusnak suggested and found that a 3/8" bolt is the next standard size up. I bought a bolt and Drill And Tap set at one of the big home improvement stores. To give myself plenty of room, I removed the battery. Drilling and tapping was easy and quick. The battery is going anywhere now! One of the easiest DIY's I have done. Just another case of the right tools making the job smooth and uncomplicated.

You already do and it came straight from the factory. The seat belt bolts are SAE.
