Evaporator box connector tubes

Is there supposed to be a gasket or foam piece around the connector tube that goes through the passenger floorboard and enters the evap box? There is quite a gap around the tube and the hole in the evaporator or is this the way it was designed.
I looked at the parts breakdown and pictures and they only show a foam piece around the upper connector tube and a foam piece on the evap drain tube. Any input would be appreciated. Also, which is the better battle, install the evaporator box assembled and fight lining up the connector tubes or install the evap bottom half first and then fight installing the &**%%$ clips?

So I am not the only one with the clip issue?

Suggest the latter then seal the upper and lower box interface with that silver AC tape for home ducting. I never was comfortable I had the clips on right.

Having done it, assemble it completely then drop it into the smuglers box. Just remember the whole factory air con was a kluge to begin with.

That is the method I figured was be probably be the best. But, still leaves me with the question of gasket or foam to fill the gap between the lower connection tube and evap box hole.

There are 3 at the bottom, a drain, a trapezoidal air intake and a round hole to the center tunnel, which are you asking about

The trapezoidal piece and how does it mount as notice it is smaller than the hole in the evap. The other two pieces are pretty straight forward.

Never mind, I figured out what the trapezoidal piece of foam is used for and it sure wasn't for what I thought it was. I made my own sealer for the lower trapezoidal connector using two pieces of high density foam with a piece of softer lower density foam sandwiched between. Did a test fit-up and fits perfect and easy to install.

Here is what I use to re-install the clips.

Good luck,

Thanks for the tip, and that is what I ended up using for putting them back on. Just open the clips a little and they slid right back on sideways. Trying to open them enough to pop them on over the top required to much of a struggle.
