Headlight washer with pics

These valves appear to be one way. My question is are the hooked up correctly in the picture? That's how they were when I took the bumper off. Headlight washers currently don't work because the pump is inop. I can push a screw driver into the end with the number 2 on it to depress the spring load plunger and then air with pass through....wouldn't the washer fluid act as the screwdriver and open the plunger? In which case these are installed incorrectly. Am I wrong?

I would blow in the end to check it and most likely it's in the direction the arrow is pointing. The headlights have to be on for the pump to work.

That's not a jet. That's a check valve. There's an arrow on it showing the normal direction of fluid flow. In your picture, fluid enters from the left. The bottom of the check valve plugs into the washer jet.

I've heard that the car may also have to be moving for them to work. I don't recall for certain, I've only used mine once, shortly after I bought the car to see if they work. Made such a mess of the car with the blue washer fluid the PO used that I've never tried them again.

Yea I blew some pressurized air in the direction of the arrow. It works but kinda stirs up the air on the way out, however when you blow the opposite direction you get a nice smooth flow of air...maybe its made that way to make suds in the washer fluid or restrict the flow a bit...I dunno.

Yes, your one way valves are oriented correctly. I just got through rebuilding my headlight washer system and can relate the following.

1. headlights need to be on to actuate washers.
2. when you push the switch you will get a brief "timed" squirt.
3. I needed to hook a 12vdc source to my washer motor to prime the system before it worked.
4. Once you get it working it puts a "boatload" of fluid on your headlights.

Is there any way to get to that pump without removing the bumper?

I want to replace mine and was pretty much resigned to the fact I have to pull the bumper.

I do use mine on long road trips. Driving in light rain or just after a rain the car gets slimed. It will hose down the headlights and the windshield at the same time.

It's in front of the AC blower. Remove the blower and it's pretty easy to access.

I think that you are thinking of the windshield washer pump.

The headlight washer pump is a different and separate pump. I can't even see the headlight washer pump. If you look at the photos above you will see his bumper is off. I really suspect that is the only way to get to it. The headlight washer pump is just skipped in the manual I have.

i have the high pressure washer pump for the headlights and no way you need the bumper off for access.. to get to the squirters or check valve maybe .. but certainly not the pump .

Oh I have an SC just in case they are different.

Look on your washer fluid tank, top left, under the fender.

OK, so if I drop the tank can I get to my high pressure headlight washer pump and leave the bumper in place?

That's the way I'd do it. Have a look and see what looks easiest for you.

Headlight washer with pics

I have a volt meter hooked up to the headlight washer connector. When I push the headlamp wash button on the top half with the icon I get nothing. When I press the lower half I get a short hit of power...probably less than a second. Is this how it's supposed to work? Also is the button supposed to spring back to one position or just click into either position? Since I haven't seem the system operate I'm unfamiliar with how it should be.

I just ran wires from the battery straight to the headlight washer pump....the thing barely made a noise. Tried the motor in both directions. Hardly a noise. Must be shot. The windshield washer pump is much louder.

It's a momentary button and springs back. It should be such that you can only push it one way. It does not allow the system to run as long as you push the button; it allows a brief squirt only.

Ok thanks. I just edited my post. Pretty sure the pump is shot. One on eBay used for $9.99. Don't beat me to it!!

OK, I learn something new every day on this board. And I always though the heat/ventilation was the most complicated system.

TheIceMan - I too have an SC - how do I get to the pump? I got it to run a couple of times and now I just hear a click. I'd like to check out the pump.
TIA Wayne
