Trimming Door Stay Reinforcement
I am trying to fit a door stay reinforcement kit on my '75. From reading other posts I understand that the outer plate of the kit needs to be trimmed a little bit the fit through the hole on these earlier doors. Does anyone have an example of how they have trimmed this plate down? I don't want to take off too much metal and weaken the reinforcement kit.

Reinforcement kit.........
JP,
I also need to install a reinforcement kit for the driverside door. What's the part # for the kit? Thanks. Tony |

Same issue on my 75, sorry no pics. I just ground the square corners on the outside piece to a nice generous radius on the bench grinder and with a little finagling it slipped in.
You don't have to take too much off and I took the minimum since my door was really ripped up. |

I'm not sure if it helps since I don't have an unmodified plate for comparison but here is what my plate looked like by the time I got it to fit. I had to shorten one side (the end that went in last) more than the other.
![]() For fun - here are the before and after pics of my door. I wish I had the skills that some of the guys on this site have! Hope to get primer on it in the morning. ![]() ![]() |
