Heater fan

Still having some trouble with the engine heater blower for my 87 3.2. Upon shutting down, the fan continues to run but this does not occur all the time. This started a few weeks ago and so far, I have been unable to fine the source.

The current diagrams show a relay in the rear compartment that has been changed, and a sensor that appears to be the thermostat. If the fan is running upon shutdown, if I tap the relay, it will shut down. Sounds like a faulty relay but not wishing to spend another $125, would appreciate any ideas? The wiring looks good and no apparent shorts. (I had a previous post on the heater earlier in the year and thoroughly cleaned the fan and replaced the relay that had been missing. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago.)

This fan comes on automatically when she is started (with heater off) so I am assuming this is to aid in cooling. Is this correct for an 87 3.2? If it is not supposed to come on when started, then this would mean I have a short somewhere. If it is supposed to run for added cooling, then it would thus seem to indicate that the relay is bad.

Hello

Well descriped postruning is a built in modus but it sounds like you have a problem with the ecu circuit switching the device.
I think when you remove the correct pin on the DME ECU the device will not work in the aftercooling mode and if yes it is a internal heating device ECU problem.

Thanks, I'll look into the DME and see what that does, for now, the heater fan is working fine, not sure why, but it shuts off ok. My thinking is it is a wiring problem causing a temp short in some of the wiring.
