Removing horn cap (4 spokes steering wheel )
I'm trying to remove the horn cap from my steering wheel which is the stock 4 spokes model from any '85 Carrera.
Is there a special trick... ? I've been pulling and twisting it for a few minutes but nothing seems to work... Thanks guys.

Disconnect the battery or at least the horn fuse then pull firmly and evenly. It probably never been removed but it will give. Just don't pull all the way, there is a wire connected to it so as not to damage the crimp.

I use two nylon straps like come on a ratchet strap. Loop around both sides of the horn and pull quickly on both straps at the same time. The idea is to pull the straps evenly together to apply even pressure to both sides of the horn. A quick little snap usually will pop the horn out. Remember there are a wire that is connected to the horn cover so when it pops out, stop pulling.

No worries you won't, just release pressure once the three lock clips ( one on top two on the sides ) give. Place some lube to help it back on after your work.

After removing the horn cap to replace the bright light stalk, my horn cap now pops off when I hit a hard bump in the road or if honk the horn forcibly. Any suggestions for securing the horn cap? Thanks.

You can try to use a heat gun to shrink the diameter a bit. Did it "snap" in when you replaced it?

If you can, post of pic of your wheel with the horn pad installed. My guess is you didn't push the pad back on quite far enough. I had that problem on the right side until I removed the horn relay in the trunk and really pressed the pad back on.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I took the horn pad off today and closely examined it. For each of the three contact points, there was a chunk of plastic missing from the cylinder within the spring. I replaced the horn pad by pressing it on as much as possible, and seemed like a tight fit. I went out for a short drive , and a car was starting to turn into my lane while driver was looking at traffic coming from opposite direction. I forcibly hit horn to get driver's attention and horn pad separated. I guess I have to start looking for a replacement horn pad. Thanks for your suggestions though.
