OK, so I sprayed down under the rear wheels and into the rear bumper with a garden hose to get some of the crud in there out. Things got wet and I had to let it dry out in the sun before it ran right again. Yesterday I washed the car, no spraying under the car and the same things happened. Is that my plug wires? Something else? Hate to think of getting caught in a rain shower and having to pull over and let it air dry out. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Water will get in thru the lid grill, check your dizzy to see if it is loose and or spark plug wires are fully seated.
Also what kind of air filter do you have?

Bad plug wires will arc when wet causing a hesitation in the engine. I had this problem when getting caught in the heavy rain. You can check by running your engine in the dark and misting water over the engine. If the wires are bad you will see the arcing

I blast both wheel wells and occasionally the entire engine underside with no ill effects. You got something getting wet that's not normal. I'd put money on the wires or distributor.
